Pincushion flower

Pincushion flower 2

Leucospermum, also known as Pincushion Flower, is a species of plant in the genus Proteaceae. Most of the plants of the Proteaceae are native to Australia/South Africa. The scientific name of the Proteaceae has the meaning of the Greek god (Proteus), and Proteus is famous mythology for having a changeable appearance, which is exactly the Proteaceae plant is all about. It has the symbolic meaning of changeable and unique flower shape.

Leucospermum has a woody stem, and the leaves are as hard as leather. When the flower is not open, it will be like its name, Pincushion, with curved needles inserted on the pincushion. After blooming, each needle-shaped floret will be separated from the hairy flower head, just like a blooming firework, so it is also called Firework Chrysanthemum in Chinese.

Leucospermum are generally red/ orange/ yellow in color, and can be seen in the market in summer and early autumn. Its dazzling and unique appearance can always become the protagonist of the work. During maintenance, just like other lignified flowers, cut diagonally and then break the flower feet into shape “1” , which can prolong the viewing period of Leucospermum.
