Introduction to Erica
Erica, “石楠 (珍珠)” in Chinese, also known as Pearl Heath and native to South Africa, is a unique floral material. Its petals and sepals have a texture similar to Wintersweet, possessing a slightly waxy feel, while the stems are woody.
The tiny Erica flowers grow in abundance along the entire stem. From a distance, they look like clusters of small pearls, which is why they are often called “Pearls.” Due to its long blooming period, Erica is also highly suitable for use as a dried flower.
Applications of Erica
Because of its unique texture and pearl-like appearance, it is often used to add intricate detail and volume to floral designs. Its durability makes it a favorite for long-lasting arrangements and rustic wreaths.
Care and Maintenance
When conditioning, in addition to a diagonal cut, remember to make an extra vertical split (a “straight-line” cut) at the base. This should be done for all woody stems to increase water absorption, which helps extend their vase life.
