Eryngium, “紫毛球” in Chinese, also known as Sea Holly or Thistle, gets its name from its flower heads covered in fine prickles, looking like tiny sea urchins from a distance. The flower heads are umbrella-shaped and spiky, paired with star-shaped, prickly leaves.
Characteristics of Eryngium
While it may feel slightly sharp to the touch—similar to a wire brush—it isn’t actually painful. With its unique appearance and mesmerizing colors, it has become very popular among floral enthusiasts. Most people are instantly drawn to its captivating violet-blue hue.
